CREB Foundation Fuels Vital Housing Support for Vulnerable Calgarians
The Calgary Real Estate Board (CREB) Realtor Community Foundation continues to serve as a cornerstone for social good, making significant strides in supporting vulnerable populations within Calgary. The foundation recently announced a substantial distribution of $101,020 in crucial grants. These funds have been awarded to seven dedicated non-profit organizations, each tirelessly working to provide essential housing and shelter services to Calgarians in dire need. This strategic allocation underscores CREB’s commitment to addressing the city’s most pressing social challenges.
This latest round of funding marks a pivotal moment, elevating the foundation’s total disbursements for 2025 through its acclaimed Community and Transformation Grants to an impressive $298,695. This considerable sum has been channeled to 11 deserving organizations, representing a remarkable increase of $139,000 compared to the grants awarded in 2024. This notable growth not only reflects the foundation’s expanding reach but also its enhanced capacity to drive tangible, positive change in Calgary’s housing landscape, fostering greater stability and hope for countless individuals and families.
Further solidifying its long-term commitment to community welfare, the CREB Foundation initiated a monumental three-year, $1-million Legacy Grant earlier this year. This transformative investment was allocated to the Calgary Dream Centre, specifically designated to support the construction of its innovative new Erlton House. This state-of-the-art facility is designed to offer critical housing and comprehensive support services tailored for women and families, addressing a significant void in the city’s social infrastructure. The Legacy Grant exemplifies a proactive approach to creating sustainable solutions and pathways to independence for those striving to rebuild their lives.
The recipients of the Transformation Grants showcase the breadth of community needs addressed by the CREB Foundation. These vital organizations include The Brenda Strafford Foundation, dedicated to supporting senior care; the Calgary Drop-In and Rehab Centre Society, a critical resource for individuals experiencing homelessness; Central United Church’s Central Outreach Hub Space, providing multifaceted community support; FearIsNotLove, an organization focused on preventing domestic violence; Highbanks Independent Living for Parenting Youth Society, empowering young parents; L’Arche Association of Calgary, supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities; and Wood’s Homes, a leading mental health service provider for children, youth, and families. Each organization plays a crucial role in strengthening Calgary’s social safety net.
The CREB Foundation’s grant programs are meticulously structured to maximize their impact. Transformation Grants are specifically tailored to fund projects that renovate and enhance existing community spaces, ensuring that vital infrastructure meets contemporary needs and effectively serves the community. Conversely, Community Grants are allocated to major initiatives that are fundamental in preventing homelessness and ensuring vulnerable Calgarians remain securely housed. The overarching Legacy Grant embodies the foundation’s strategic vision for creating significant, new housing options across the city, aiming for systemic change and long-term solutions to housing insecurity. Through this comprehensive and multi-tiered approach, the CREB Foundation is not merely offering aid but is actively building a more inclusive, resilient, and compassionate Calgary, making a lasting difference in the lives of its citizens.
Cornerstone Golf Tournament Drives Significant Support for Habitat for Humanity Waterloo Region
The Cornerstone Association of Realtors once again showcased its philanthropic spirit at its second annual Charity Golf Tournament. Held on September 11th, this highly anticipated event brought together the real estate community and successfully raised an impressive $37,505, all in steadfast support of Habitat for Humanity Waterloo Region. The tournament, which quickly sold out, created a dynamic atmosphere where Realtors from across the region converged on the golf course, united by camaraderie and a shared commitment to a noble cause: making safe, affordable homeownership a tangible reality for more families.
The robust fundraising efforts extended significantly beyond the greens. A highly successful online auction ran concurrently with the tournament, contributing substantially to the overall funds raised. Through the incredible generosity of the attendees, the tireless dedication of volunteers, the unwavering support of corporate sponsors, the contributions of individual donors, and the broader community’s engagement, the auction alone generated more than $6,300. This collective outpouring of support powerfully underscored the widespread belief in Habitat for Humanity’s transformative mission and the community’s profound willingness to invest in meaningful social change.
Habitat for Humanity Waterloo Region stands as a beacon of hope and practical assistance, tirelessly dedicated to constructing safe, decent, and affordable homes. The organization operates on a fundamental principle: that stable, secure housing is far more than just a place to live; it is the essential bedrock upon which stronger families, thriving communities, and robust local economies are built. For over 35 years, Habitat for Humanity has been an active and profoundly impactful presence in the Waterloo Region, consistently transforming lives and empowering more than 140 families to achieve the dream of homeownership. This enduring legacy highlights the deep and lasting positive difference they make in the lives of their partner families, fostering stability and opportunity.
Recognizing the pivotal role of stable housing in community well-being, Realtors have forged a strong and enduring partnership with Habitat for Humanity over many years. Their commitment extends far beyond financial contributions; many agents and brokerages actively participate in hands-on “Build Days,” generously volunteering their time and skills to help construct homes alongside the future homeowners. This direct, personal involvement not only fosters a profound sense of community but also provides tangible, invaluable assistance to ongoing construction projects. Following the triumphant completion of the Kehl Street project in Waterloo, current construction initiatives are focused on building new homes on St. George Street in Kitchener and developing innovative stacked townhomes on Shantz Hill in Cambridge. These ambitious projects collectively aim to significantly enhance the attainability of homeownership across the entire Waterloo Region, solidifying the belief that every individual deserves the dignity and security of a place to call home.

These invaluable volunteers are instrumental at every stage of the process, from meticulously collecting and carefully sorting the donated items to ensuring their timely, efficient, and compassionate delivery to various shelters, community centers, and directly to individuals in need.
